GUJARATI

Vidya Vikas has been offering Gujarati class for more than 14 years. The emphasis of these classes is reading, writing, speaking and understanding Gujarati. In entry level, students learn basic alphabets of Gujarati with proper pronunciations, identification and writing. In intermediate level they learn how to make basic words of Gujarati without complex Vowels. In in last level, they learn how to make complex words of Gujarati with combination of Consonants and Vowels.

Class Levels: Each class is taught by 2 teachers – Primary with extensive teaching experience and a helper teacher who can help individuals kids to keep the class progressing at steady pace. We also have youth kids who volunteer in the class.
  • This level is suitable for kids between ages of 5-8 years and for those who are just starting to learn Gujarati.
  • They learn basic alphabets of Gujarati with proper pronunciations, identification and writing.
  • Numbers from 1 to 10 with pronunciations.
  • Gujarati poems, Ukhana, etc.
  • Fun games during the class.
  • This level is suitable for kids between ages of 8-12 years and for those who are proficient in Alphabets.
  • They learn how to make basic words of Gujarati without complex Vowels.
  • They also learn how to make, read and write basic sentences.
  • Fun games during the class.
  • This level is suitable for kids between ages of 12-16 years and for those who are proficient in reading and writing basic words.
  • They learn how to make complex words of Gujarati with combination of Consonants and Vowels.
  • Jodakshar/half letter and uses of them in Gujarati.
  • They also learn how to make, read and write complex sentences.
  • Fun games during the class.

This level is suitable for kids between ages of 12-16 years and for those who are proficient in reading and writing basic words. They Will learn the following:

  • Revision of Level 3.
  • Write a small essay.
  • Describe the action taking place in a picture using complex sentences.
  • Advance Grammar.
  • Fun games

Annual Gujarati Function

Every year we conclude the Gujarati classes with an end-of-year function. The goal of this function is –

  1. To learn Gujarati while participating in a cultural activity
  2. To showcase what students have learnt throughout the year
  3. To learn to be comfortable in front of an audience

Hetal Bhatt

Hetal Bhatt was born in Vadorada the cultural town in the State of Gujarat, India. Spending first 23 years of life in Vadodra, he developed strong bond with Gujarati. His devotion to Gujarati and Hindu culture kept growing even after he immigrated to US in 2003 to pursuit his career as a Civil Engineer.

Mr. Bhatt is working as a licensed Civil Engineer for last 12 years. He has successfully managed traffic for mega events such as NFL Super Bowl. He enjoys being a Civil Engineer, but loves being a Gujarati teacher at Vidya Vikas. He has been serving as teacher since last three years. Mr. Bhatt gets delighted when young kids start reading their first word in Gujarati. He believes teaching Gujarati at Vidya Vikas is nothing less then blessing from Maa Saraswati.

Riti Shah

Hi Everyone! I am Riti Shah, born and raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. I have been in USA since 2017 and graduated from UT Austin with my BBA in Finance in May 2021. I currently work as a finance analyst in the semiconductor industry. I started teaching at Vidya Vikas in 2022 and am very excited to connect with kids and share my passion for learning and speaking in my mother tongue, Gujarati. I always search for out of the box ideas for kids to learn about our rich language and culture. Outside of work, I love to dance (always in for Garba!), play tennis and spend time with my family and friends.

Rajvi Panchmia

Hello! I am Rajvi. I am glad to join Vidya Vikas as a Gujarati teacher for Level 2. I came across Vidya Vikas during one of my visits to the temple and since then I always wanted to be a part of this organization. Being an educator by profession, nurturing the curiosity of young minds has been my second nature. My motivation to join Vidya Vikas is to give back to the community by teaching our mother tongue, Gujarati, to future generations.

Urmi Roy

I am Urmi Roy living in Irving, Texas with my husband and three kids. We moved to Dallas in 2020. Since then, my family is regularly visits DFW temple and my kids are enrolled in various vidyavikas classes. My family is native of Uttar Pradesh and migrated to Gujarat many years ago. I was born and raised in Gujarat. I have studied in Guajarati medium till Bachelors of commerce and did Bachelor’s and Masters of Law. With Gujarati being my medium of learning, I was introduced to various Gujarati literature and became avid admirer of this rich language. Few of my favorite literatures are Sarswatichandra, Saurashtra ni rasdhar and Bhadrambhadra. I love our Indian culture and always eager to pass it on to the next generation. As a kid I have attended Swadhyay Parivaar for years. When I came to know about the Vidyavikas, I was glad that kids are getting all the cultural knowledge here. It is exciting for me to join the Vidyavikas and help the younger kids to be familiar with our great culture, languages and traditions

Maulik Bhatt
Maulik is a Former Gujarati Coordinator and Former Level 3 Teacher. Maulik has been part of temple since 2007 and joined Vidya Vikas as Gujarati teacher and coordinator in 2017. Both of his daughters studied and completed Gujarati and other languages from Vidya Vikas. He can already see that Vidya Vikas has given so much to his kids and he wants to return favor and educate the next generation. Professionally he is an engineer and has also worked as a part time teacher in engi- neering college many ago. Volunteering at Vidya Vikas brings him back to his passion of educating kids.
Sonal Modha
Hi everyone, I am Sonal Modha, a Gujarati Teacher for Level 1 & 2. I have been teaching Vidya Vikas for more than 10 years. I like to teach because it gives me an opportunity to pass our language and culture on to our younger generations. It is very imperative that we get involved with our community and help give back. I've been an avid member of the annual Ganesh Utsav that was founded by the Siddhi Vinayak Ganpati Mandal, one of my most favorite activities to host. My motivation for being involved is to emphasize how beautiful our culture is, and how everyone from our community should be proud of what we symbolize. My vision is to be able to carry on the roots and traditions of our culture and help all generations embrace its significance and beauty.
Kalgi Ganatra
Hello! I am Kalgi and I’ve been teaching Gujarati Level 1 at Vidya Vikas for the last 2 years. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the kids get excited and invested in learning everyday words not only at school, but also at home with their parents and grandparents. Outside of Vidya Vikas, I am an Accountant and I love cooking new recipes.
Ashish Patel

I am Ashish Patel working in the IT field for the past 20 years. I moved to the DFW area 10 years back with my family and have been associated with the temple since then. I volunteered at temple activities prior to being a Gujarati teacher and have been teaching Gujarati for the last 4 years and love it.

I’ve seen the richness of Gujarati language at home - my father did his PhD in Gujarati language and was a Gujarati language professor, so that inspired me to carry on that task educating kids with Gujarati language at a very small level. ‘You should be proud of who you are today, but should not forget your roots”

Hi I am a Pediatrics Physical Therapist by profession. Been in USA for past 14 years and in Texas for past 4 years.

Our family started to visit Vidya Vikas and Temple since 2018. I have been doing Gujarati Language volunteering for the past 3 years as an assistant Teacher to help out Ashishbhai Patel. Coming from strong root of Ahmedabad Gujarat and studied in Gujarati Medium schooling helps out to participate in volunteering and fortunate to work with VV group.

My motto and inspiration in life is " Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. " " The best way to predict your future is to create it. "

Sandeep Mehta

Sandeep Mehta has been part of temple since 2005 and joined Vidhya Vikas as Gujarati

Teacher since 2016. Sandeep has two son's and both are enrolled with Vidhya Vikas to learn Mothertongue language and religion class. Sandeep wants to contribute to the community when learnt that Gujarati program at Vidya Vikas was struggling, he volunteered as a teacher. He can already see that Vidya Vikas has given so much to his kids and he wants to return favor and educate the next generation. Professionally he is an engineer and his wife as well. Sandeep truely believes in significance of learning mother tongue language that helps kids for firm family bonding and increases child's literacy skills. He loves traveling, hiking and outdoors.

Sandeep is looking forward to being associated with Vidya Vikas for many years to come.
