Hindu Dharma

Religion classes are dedicated to sharing the knowledge of Hindu (Sanātana) dharma with children ages 4-18, and mandatory for all VidyaVikas registered students. The curriculum for these classes, has been carefully developed to reveal a variety of Hindu concepts taken directly from the scriptures. The children learn about different forms and deities, avatars, and the significance of important events celebrated as Hindu Festivals. The kids learn about Rāmāyana and Mahābhārata, Saints, recite Shlokas and prayers. They also learn Bhajan-singing, Yoga, Crafts, Rangoli, and finally a celebrated End of Year cultural program that includes theater, music, dancing and stage presentations, to make the learning experience memorable and fun. Languages

BENGALI

The Bengali language is truly our pride and hope, as in the immortal words of poet Atulprasad Sen.  It is indeed our hope that our newer generations, in our new homeland, develop a love and  appreciation for the Bengali language. We hope that they take pride in their heritage as they  assimilate in the country of their birth or adoption. The Bengali language class operates under the auspices of the Vidya Vikas School at DFW Hindu  Temple – Ekta Mandir, in Irving, Texas, and serves students from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth  Metroplex and surrounding suburbs. Classes meet every Sunday at 1:00PM.

 

Hindi

Vidya Vikas Hindi Program is more than 15 years old. It started with a handful of students and is now home to more than 150 students. The emphasis of Hindi classes at the temple is understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Hindi. The students are split into six levels.

A program which encompasses various activities which helps you in making proficient in Hindi:

  • Conversation Club (speaking and understanding Hindi)
  • Speech Contest
  • Prepares you for the foreign language Credit by Exam
  • Game Day (Learning Hindi through Games)
  • Presentations and so much more
  • Hindi Mela (For in-person classes)
  • End of the Year Program
  • Teachers’ Aide program which helps in practicing Hindi and developing leadership skills.

தமிழைப் போற்றுவோம் — தமிழால் இணைவோம் வித்யா விகாஸ் தமிழ் பள்ளி சுய ஊக்கமும் தொலை நோக்கமும் கொண்ட டல்லாஸ் வாழ் தமிழர்களால் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. அமெரிக்காவில் வாழும் தமிழர்களின் குழந்தைகள் தங்களின் குடும்பம் மற்றும் உறவினர்களிடன் நல்ல தமிழ் உச்சரிப்புடன் பேசவும் தமிழில் எழுதவும், படிக்கவும் சொல்லித் தருவதே இப்பள்ளியின் நோக்கம். இங்கு அமெரிக்கன் தமிழ் அகாடெமியின்  (ATA) பாட திட்டத்தில் வகுப்புகள் நடைபெறுகின்றன. இதில் ஐந்து வயது முதல் குழந்தைகள் அனுமதிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள். gujarati

Vidya Vikas has been offering Gujarati class for more than 14 years. The emphasis of  these classes is reading, writing, speaking and understanding Gujarati. The students are split into three levels and they are provided with books and all materials that they can keep after graduating from the class. Students are encouraged to stay in each class for at least 2 years to be proficient before moving on the next level. Each class has mid term and final exam to gauge the level of student’s learning and ta deciding factor to promote student to next level. Click here for more details.

kannada

Since 1990, the Aralu Mallige Kannada Shale (Vidya Vikas) have been serving Indian community by teaching kids and adults kannada classes in the DFW area. This is the oldest and First language teaching class in the metroplex.

Telugu

Teaching Telugu language was started at Vidya Vikas, DFW Hindu temple by Ananda Murthy Kuchibhotla garu in 1997-98. He requested me to take over in the year 2000. I had the privilege of being the teacher and coordinator to Telugu language for over the past 20 years.

Marathi

Vidya Vikas Marathi Shala / Classes have been operating for more than 10 years in DFW Hindu Temple. This shala is part of Vidya Vikas program and provides BMM Certification as well. The purpose of this shala is to preserve and promote Marathi Language and culture. Main objective is to teach students conversing, reading and writing Marathi.

GITA CHANTING
Children learn to chant shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita.
 

BhajanS

Bhajan classes started in 2010, taught by a classical Carnatic vocalist teachers, who use musical compositions to sing glories of the Supreme, composed by saints, and modern day lyricists. Two separate bhajan classes – the one for youth is focussed on learning Hindustani classical vocal singing basics to sing mantras and devotional compositions from an early age.; and the one for adults is focussed on developing bhakti.

Dance

Dance classes have been on for over a decade at Vidya Vikas. Two separate groups, one for youth that is semi-classical based, usually selected by theme. The songs selected are either devotional or light music. The attire is temple  temple appropriate. The group for adults is folk dance based, and the songs are folk or devotional in nature.

SAT Preparation

SAT preparation classes are offered for school grade levels 8 and above. Emphasis on sharpening Math & English, and learning skills to answer questions accurately and quickly.

18 & UP

Sanskrit Conversational

Spoken Sanskrit Class for Adults, with learning basics of the language. Students of different skill levels come into the class and learn collectively.

GITA Study

The class is focused on learning the concepts of Bhagavad Gita, as well as the exact pronunciation of shlokas. The learning of the participants is enhanced in a satsang style setting, that allows students and seekers to learn from each other as well.

Narayaneeyam chanting

Learn to chant the shlokas from Nārāyaṇīyam, along with their meaning.

Yoga

Practice a curative, restorative or a preventive routine, to stay healthy and feel great.

DISCUSSION FORUM

Living as a nuclear family in the US, we are often faced with difficult questions and decisions. In absence of advice and counsel of elders, this discussion forum offers the next best thing – other people’s perspectives and how they have managed challenges and made decisions.

Alumni Networking

Once students graduate from Vidya Vikas, they lose touch with their fellow Vidya Vikas students and teachers. The Vidya Vikas Alumni networking social is designed to bring together Vidya Vikas alumni, so they can connect with other alumni professionally and socially, and also rekindle their connection with Vidya Vikas teachers. The alumni social is held in the evening on the day after Thanksgiving.
